I'm Reid Homola, founder of Systems Built and a certified SYSTEMologist®.
I didn't start out in business systems. I spent years as a technology consultant — implementing ERPs and building custom software. But I kept seeing the same thing: even after the new tech went live, the business underneath still couldn't run a week without certain people in the room. The tech was fine. The business wasn't.
The biggest project I ran drove it home. I implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 for an engineering and construction company — but the real work wasn't the software. It was making sure the team could run it without me: writing SOPs, training people, recording walkthroughs. A few weeks after go-live, they were running on their own. That's when it clicked — software doesn't fix a business. Systems do.
So I got certified in SYSTEMology® and built Systems Built to do for a whole business what I'd done for that one client: get the knowledge out of people's heads, write it down in plain English, train the team to run on it, and step the owner out of the middle.
Why builders

I focused on builders for two reasons.
First, I know the world. I spent over a year at Hamlin Building Center getting to know dozens of small, owner-run builders — how they operate, how they talk, and what they're up against.
Second, home building is one of the best industries to get systems in place. The work already follows a natural sequence — foundations before framing, framing before mechanicals, subs in a predictable order, customers moving from design to contract to build to warranty. It's already systematic in the real world. It just isn't written down.
That makes my job easier. I'm not inventing process — I'm capturing what already exists. Which means builders who commit to this get faster wins and a bigger payoff than almost anyone else.

A bit about me
I'm based in Hayti, South Dakota, where I run Systems Built with my wife Roberta, who helps with admin. I grew up in Minnesota and landed in Hayti after meeting her.
When I'm not working on systems, I'm usually hunting, tackling projects around the house, or playing disc golf if there's daylight left.
